Does teletherapy really work?

Teletherapy has been researched extensively, and has shown to be just as efficacious as in-person therapy, for both children and adults. Research has also shown that people tend to stay connected with their therapist for longer using telehealth. While some prefer to meet in-person, others love the ease of online therapy. You don’t have to worry about transportation, getting child care, or maintaining confidentiality. Nothing is recorded, and the platform we use is HIPPA-compliant. Simply log on from a comfortable, private space.

What other languages do you provide therapy in?

Dr. Dadouch was born in the United States, and spent half of her childhood in Damascus, Syria, before returning to the U.S. She is fluent in both Arabic and English and has a personal connection to and interest in the Arab-American identity, its cultural uniqueness, complexities, and difficulties. If you speak both languages, it is completely your decision which language (or combination) you prefer to do therapy in.

Do you include areas of religion and spirituality in therapy?

Each client is unique and has a set of identities that they enter the therapy room with. No particular area of life is included and emphasized in therapy without the desire and willingness of the client themselves. Religion and spirituality mean different things to each of us. Whether you want to include religion and spirituality in therapy or not, it is your decision. Similarly to ethnic and racial identities, each client decides what part of their identity is important for them to include in therapy together. Good therapy never forces anything on a client.

What is evidence-based practice or therapy?

Evidence-based practice (EBP) or evidence-based therapy is the merger of the best available and most up-to-date research with clinical knowledge. In other words, treatments that are evidence-based are supported by both clinical research and clinical expertise to maximize success in treatment results. EBP will follow guidelines that maximize the efficacy of therapy for clients in the shortest amount of time possible. Many therapies are not fully supported by research and thus should not be advertised as EBP. Everything we provide at Sakinah Center adheres to EBP.

Do you offer payment plans or help with fees?

We completely understand that many folks want to but can’t afford to work with a private pay practice. We also know that good, evidence-based services are hard to find, and there are many hurdles to finding a good therapist. If consistent therapeutic support feels beyond your financial ability, please contact us anyway. We can change meeting frequency, be creative about scheduling options, and set up payment plans. For a minority of our clients, we can negotiate an affordable fee for a limited number of sessions. Feel free to talk to us about fees at any time.
